以馬內利教會在奔走四旬節之路期間，鼓勵會眾反思苦難的意義，將聖經故事融入生活並成為自己的故事，而不僅僅是聆聽。
除了基督十字架的道路外，聖經中有許多人在患難和艱難中經歷了靠主得勝，其中宣教士以使徒保羅為例，分享了腓立比書4:10-13的信息，並指出了他在任何情況中都能知足的秘訣。
「一是讓恩典滿溢在我們的心裏和生活中。最大的恩典就是耶穌基督帶領我們脫離黑暗和死亡的救恩」，沒有恩典，人的心只能根據自己的狀況而變動，並變得剛硬。這時是很容易陷入自己的想法甚至魔鬼的謊言中，就像加略人猶大那樣。
第二個提醒會眾的是生活有兩面性，正如保羅所說：「似乎憂愁，卻是常常快樂的；似乎貧窮，卻是叫許多人富足的；似乎一無所有，卻是樣樣都有的」，魔鬼讓人只關注自己所缺乏的，以及自己所面的情況是多麼困難，卻不想到神所給予的恩典。
「從某個角度來說，苦難會讓我們變得更加純潔，更加向神祈求，」他補充道。「事實上，我們所走的道路是一條非常寶貴又漂亮的道路，它能讓我們從內到外結出美好的聖靈的果子。希望四旬期能成為我們更加仰望耶穌的時刻。」
崇拜結束後，會眾聚集在一起分享恩典並互相代禱。
Immanuel Sunday: Joy in Adversity
As taking path of the Lent, Immanuel Church encouraged congregants to meditate the meaning of suffering and turn stories in the Bible into their lives other than just listening.
Apart from the path of Christ’s cross, there are many figures in the Bible experiencing victories from their difficulties and sufferings, missionary took apostle Paul as an example to shared a message from Philippians 4:10-13 and pointed out his secret of being content in any and every situation.
“One is to let grace overflow in our hearts and lives, and the greatest grace is saving grace that Jesus Christ brings us out of the darkness and death,” and without the grace, people’s hearts will change according to their situation, then become hardened and they might be easy to fall into their own thoughts and even the devil’s lies, like Judas Iscariot did.
Second one is to remind congregants there are two sides in their lives, as Paul saying: “sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything”, the devil lets people only focus on what they are lacking and how difficult they are in, but not the grace God has given to them.
“From a certain perspective, suffering makes us become more pure and asking before God,” he added.
“In fact, the way we are taking is a very ‘noble’ way, that allows us to bear the beautiful fruits of Holy Spirit from the inside out. Hope that the Lent will be a time for us to look more closely to Jesus.”
Congregants gathered to share grace and pray for each other after the service.
